Terms of service
Last updated: October 4, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Heirloom Recipes (heirloom-recipe-books.com, "we") when you use our website and app. We've kept them as plain as we can. By using Heirloom Recipes, you agree to them.
1. What we do
Heirloom Recipes helps you preserve your family's recipes. You photograph recipe cards — typed, handwritten or clipped — and we turn them into beautifully designed pages. You can view and share your book online, buy it as a PDF, order printed copies, or buy a gift code for someone else to make a printed book.
2. Your account
You can start without signing in; we create an anonymous account for you. If you don't sign in and you clear your browser or change devices, you may lose access to your book, so we recommend signing in. You're responsible for keeping access to your email or Google account secure. You must be at least 13 to use Heirloom Recipes, and old enough to make purchases where you live (or have a parent's or guardian's permission).
3. Your recipes stay yours
You own the photos, recipes, notes and stories you add. We don't claim any ownership of them.
So that we can provide the service, you give us permission (a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence) to store, copy, process and display your content, including processing it with AI; to lay it out into book pages and files; to share it with our printing partner and print and ship it; and to show it to people you share it with. This permission lasts only as long as needed to provide the service to you, and ends when you delete your content or account (except for books already sent to print). We won't use your recipes or photos in our marketing without asking you first.
You confirm that you have the right to upload what you upload — for example, that the recipe cards are your family's, or that you have permission to use them.
4. AI, proofs and dish illustrations
We use AI to read your recipe cards and to create dish illustrations. AI can make mistakes — a misread quantity, a missed word, a wrong temperature. Anything we're unsure about is flagged, but please review every recipe and your full book preview carefully before you buy or order. Your book is produced exactly as you approve it, so we can't offer refunds for mistakes in content you approved (see our refund policy for what we do cover).
Dish illustrations are AI-generated artwork, not photos — they may not look exactly like your family's version of the dish. Printed colors can also look a little different from your screen.
Recipes are provided by you and your family. We don't test or check them for safety, allergens or accuracy.
5. Prices, payment and printing
Prices are shown in US dollars before you pay, including shipping for printed books. Payments are processed by Stripe. Printed books are made to order and printed and shipped by our partner, Lulu. Shipping times are estimates, not guarantees — once a book is with the carrier, the delivery date is outside our control. We currently ship to the United States and Canada. If a price on the site is ever clearly wrong, we may cancel the order and refund you in full.
6. Gift codes
- A gift code can be redeemed for one printed book as described when it was bought (for example, one softcover book up to 32 pages, with tracked US shipping).
- Gift codes do not expire.
- They have no cash value, can't be exchanged for cash, and can't be resold.
- Treat a gift code like cash: anyone who has the code or gift link can redeem it. If yours is lost or used without permission, email us and we'll help where we can.
- Unredeemed gift codes can be refunded to the buyer within 30 days of purchase — see our refund policy.
7. Share links
If you create a share link, anyone with the link can view that book. You're responsible for who you send it to. You can stop sharing at any time from the app.
8. Using Heirloom Recipes fairly
Please don't use Heirloom Recipes to:
- upload anything illegal, hateful, sexually explicit, or that you don't have the right to use (for example, copying a whole published cookbook);
- upload other people's private information without their permission;
- try to break, overload, scrape or get around the security of the service, or access other people's books;
- misuse gift codes, payments or refunds.
We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to save your recipes.
9. Our service
We work hard to keep Heirloom Recipes running and your recipes safe, but we can't promise the service will always be available or error-free. We may change or improve features over time. If we ever have to shut the service down, we'll give you reasonable notice and a way to download your recipes.
The Heirloom Recipes name, website design, book styles and software belong to us. You may print and share the books you make for your personal and family use.
10. Limitation of liability
Heirloom Recipes is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control (such as carrier delays). Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the order the claim relates to (or $50 if the claim isn't about an order). Please keep your own copies of anything irreplaceable — we always recommend keeping the original recipe cards.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We'll change the date at the top, and if a change is significant we'll tell you on the site or by email. The terms in place when you place an order apply to that order.
